Wedgwood Sailor’s Farewell Oval Platter 35cm

This oval serving platter in white fine bone china beautifully illustrates many of the motifs in Kit Kemp’s whimsical story of the Sailor’s farewell, originally a fabric design inspired by a drawing of a loved-one waving her sailor goodbye. With the pale blue finish echoing the original fabric forming a wide border, a guiding compass features alongside a curious octopus, a whale, silvery fish, two dogs alone at sea, a frogman exploring a shipwreck and an enticing house under a palm tree on a faraway desert island. Blending Kit’s love of simple, lyrical folk art with Wedgwood’s craftsmanship, this generous platter is embellished with a deeper blue and hand-applied 22 carat gold trim and is backstamped for authenticity. As a renowned interior designer, Kit Kemp displays fine china platters as works of art in the dining room of The Whitby, one of her co-owned boutique hotels in New York and this platter, presented in a Wedgwood signature blue gift box makes an eye-catching centerpiece and special gift.
